Spotlight on a ChampionSean Astin

We're sure that all of you are
familiar with Sean Astin. He has had a very successful career as an actor, director, and producer. Of course,
he is best known now as one of the stars of the mega-hit Lord of the Rings movie series, in the role of
Sam Gamgee.
Our first experience with Sean was during the summer of 2002. He starred in our public service announcement
encouraging people to get involved with the United Day of Service. Between August 30th and September 12th,
this PSA was played before every movie on over 5,000 movie screens, in theaters owned by Regal Entertainment
Group. It was seen by over 19 million people.
On September 11, 2002, Sean was our Master of Ceremonies for the Champions of Hope United Day of Service
Ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington, D.C.. He introduced our various speakers, and also some
remarks himself. Afterwards, he made time for photographs and conversation with many of the youth attendees.
In all of his endeavors with us, he has been a fine representative for our organization. We hope he will
continue to work with us in our goal of getting the youth of the world to better their communities and
themselves through service.
