United Day of Service
Ceremony

On September 11, 2002, tens of thousands of young people participated in thousands of community service and service-learning projects, celebrating the contributions that youth make to their communities and honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001. On Champions of Hope's inaugural United Day of Service, people from all backgrounds, including youth, families, and community organizations collaborated in volunteering, education, and community building.

President Bush declared the month of September as the "September of Service." He called on all youth nationwide to volunteer in honor of the lives that were lost and to keep America strong. At our United Day of Service ceremony, youth declared their commitment to do just that!

The Ceremony was both a dignified memorial for those lost in the September 11 attacks, and a celebration of the youth who have pledged their time and energy to honor them through volunteer service.
