The 2nd Annual United Day of Service |
|
Youth nationwide have declared September 11, 2003 as the 2nd Annual United Day of Service. In the wake of the 9-11 attacks on our homeland, young people face the continued threat of terrorism. Millions watched the news breathlessly as brave soldiers marched into distant lands to defend the freedom we love. President Bush challenged all Americans to make a lifetime commitment to volunteer work as a way for every citizen to protect our country. This September 11th, millions of young people will organize one of five special Seasons of Hope Freedom Projects in the areas of literacy, hunger, the environment, child health, and emergency relief. The United Day of Service will achieve three important goals. First, youth will strengthen their communities by feeding the hungry, raising money for local fire departments, and organizing book drives. Second, the projects will be performed to let America know that our future is in good hands. Most importantly, each project will serve as a tribute to those who have recently taught us that the true meaning of heroism is to serve others. The United Day of Service is a unique opportunity to impact the lives and hearts of people in your own community. Your participation will help unite America on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks. This September 11th, millions of youth will stand up for something they believe in—freedom, democracy, and the strength of America. We invite you to join us. Thank you in advance for your participation in this important event. The United Day of Service is organized by Champions of Hope, a global team of youth dedicated to tackling personal, community, and global challenges through service. |
